Wearing natural hair for some is a big step and one that they can only take if they can balance it out with some make-up. I hardly wear make-up myself but love it when I see girls that are on point with their make-up. Seeing as I am no expert, I have managed to convince someone who is to do a series of posts. Here is her first one, unedited. Please leave her a comment or send her an e-mail if you want to know more.
No matter what your approach to makeup is (no makeup, minimal or heavy), nothing beats beautifully shaped eyebrows. It frames the face and has this way of opening it up. The key thing to bear in mind is that you must always work with what you have i.e work with your natural shape; in otherwords aim to shape what you have, not “shave” what you have.
There are three parts to a well-shaped eyebrow: the beginning, the arch and the tail. The general rule of thumb is that the “beginning” of the eyebrow can be determined by placing a pen by the outermost corner of your nose and have it point upwards to the innermost corner of your eye. Next is “the arch”. With the pen still resting against your nose, move it till it extends just outside your pupil; that’s where the arch should be. Finally “the tail” is determined by moving the pen (still resting against the nose) to the outermost corner of your eye. That’s also where the eyebrow ends.
Note I said the general rule; in my opinion, it provides you with a guide as that same measurement will probably not work for a person of Negroid origin who is prone to having a larger, flatter nose. For that kind of person, I’d recommend measurement for the beginning, arch and tail should be determined from the outer balls of your nose.
Once you’ve determined the right shape, I’ll advise you fill in the brow shape with white pencil (that will ensure that you leave the desired shape in place). Using a brow brush or spoolie brush, comb through the hair to determine unruly or long hairs that will require trimming.
Oops! I forgot an important aspect: the tools required. You will need
- A Spoolie brush
- Baby scissors for trimming long and/or unruly hairs
- White eye pencil
Once the trimming is done, commence to tweezing the hair left out of the whitened area.
Since tweezing can be painful, it is advisable that it is done after a warm shower, which opens up the pores.
I know these all sounds technical, but if done correctly, you would love the end result.
